Facts: Newcastle United's 1995/1996 season was one of their most memorable, as they finished 2nd in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on the title after leading for much of the campaign. Key players included striker Alan Shearer, who joined in the summer and formed a lethal partnership with Les Ferdinand, while David Ginola and Peter Beardsley provided creativity and flair in attack. Under manager Kevin Keegan, Newcastle played an exciting brand of attacking football but ultimately couldn't hold off Manchester United in the title race.
The 1996/1997 season saw another strong challenge, with Newcastle again finishing 2nd in the league. Alan Shearer was instrumental once more, ending the season as the league's top scorer, while new signing Faustino Asprilla added flair up front. The season also featured Newcastle's famous 5-0 victory over Manchester United, but despite their exciting style of play, they once again fell short of winning the title.
