Facts: Between 1997 and 1999, Newcastle United experienced a turbulent spell marked by managerial changes and inconsistency in league form. Under Kenny Dalglish and later Ruud Gullit, the club struggled to match the heights of their mid-90s title challenges, finishing 13th in both the 1997–98 and 1998–99 Premier League seasons. Alan Shearer, though hampered by injuries during this period, remained a central figure at the club. He endured a serious ankle injury that sidelined him for much of the 1997–98 campaign, but returned with typical determination. Despite the team's struggles, Shearer's leadership and goal-scoring instincts remained vital, and he played a key role in helping Newcastle reach back-to-back FA Cup finals in 1998 and 1999, though both ended in defeat. His presence kept belief alive among the fans during an otherwise difficult transitional period for the club
