Facts: The 2005-2006 season for Newcastle United was one of turbulence and transition. The club began the campaign under the management of Graeme Souness, but a string of poor results led to his dismissal in February 2006. Glenn Roeder took over as caretaker manager and successfully steered the team to a respectable seventh-place finish in the Premier League, earning a spot in the Intertoto Cup. Alan Shearer, in his final season before retirement, remained a crucial figure, becoming Newcastle's all-time leading scorer with his 201st goal for the club. Despite injuries and inconsistency, the team's late resurgence under Roeder brought optimism for the future.
